Player Development Framework – 2023 CJRL competition structures

Following recent confirmation from NSW CRLA that the Player Development Framework (PDF) rollout will not proceed in 2023, the CJRL board has sought to clarify with NSWRL any specific details which need to be taken into account in addressing the structure of junior competitions across NSWRL districts.

The board has given consideration to what form CJRL competitions will take in 2023, with the view that the PDF will move forward to implementation in 2024. As such, the following shall apply to junior competitions which were subject to change under the PDF:

  • Under 6 remains the same with as 2022 ie yellow division for new starters which will remain as Tag, all other u6 divisions will play tackle
  • Under 7 will remain as tackle
  • Under 8 will remain as tackle
  • Under 9 will remain as tackle
  • Under 6, under 7 and under 8 competitions will be non-competitive (development) competitions with no finals series contested
  • Under 9 through to under 12 competitions will remain as competitive competitions and contest a finals series
  • The Tommy Bishop Shield will remain as an under 8 competition

We appreciate the patience of clubs and volunteers in clarifying this matter, given there has been considerable speculation around junior competition structures across NSW CRLA districts for 2023. We trust this clarification will assist clubs move forward with recruitment initiatives and preparations for the 2022 season.
