Round 6 U13(b) v Joeys 24 All Draw

Round 6 U13(b) v Joeys 24 All Draw

What a great game for the girls easily their best over the last 12 months! After going down to Joeys 28-0 in Round 1 this was a massive improvement . All the girls working really hard in defence & after getting to the front in the first half it was great to see and hear so much talk on the field. The girls knew they were in the game and were encouraging and supporting each other, moving up in a line and working hard from marker. It was also great to see the girls playing heads up footy with a couple of timely darts from dummy half resulting in tries, catching the Joeys defence napping and getting us well onto the front foot.

Another Highlight in the first half, whilst it didn’t  result in points, was a conversion attempt by Gemma of her own try from 15m to the left of the posts hitting the centre of the cross bar and only a coat of paint denying the 2 points that could have ultimately swung the game. Easily the best attempt we have seen so far from any team this season.

Right on half time saw the ball kicked on the last tackle only to be plucked brilliantly out of the air by the oppositions fastest player who ran 50m to score, evening up the ledger. Who would want to be a coach!!

A sustained effort through the second half with a couple of long range tries and both sides working hard to find an edge saw the lead see-saw back and forth a couple of times.

Ultimately the girls had to settle for a draw that felt like a win. Fatastic signs and big improvement from round 1. In summary a really exciting game where the girls showed they were coming together as a team with  signs of big improvements and big things to come.
